Northwest Indiana Real Estate: Crown Point, Indiana Top Relocation Destination

Choosing the right neighborhood to relocate to in Northwest Indiana is a tough choice.

However, it need not be tough, with Crown Point being called the “Hub of Lake County”, The choice is easy!

This city of Crown Point is the county seat of Lake County, IN and has a long and varied history dating back to its incorporation in 1868. The city’s most famous landmark is the old courthouse – dubbed “The Grand Old Lady” which was listed in the national register of historic places in 1974.

The city itself has a population of 19,806 at the 2000 Census and benefits from an enviable position in the county with easy driving distance to downtown Chicago – closer than many Chicago suburbs, at only 35 miles from Chicago’s Loop. This makes it a great place to relocate to, raise a family in a small town environment while still being within commutable distance to work. Lake County itself benefits from 23 gold courses, 4 universities and 7 hospitals!

In Crown Point there is much talk about new schools for the area, with a distinct master plan which may or may not include new elementary, middle and high schools – this is great news for families looking at property in the area.

The local real estate market in this part of northwest Indiana is, according to the local press, outperforming the national market. With the number of homes sold dipping slightly nationally, here, the number of homes sold actually increased! The number of residential sales in the five-county area increased to 719 from July’s total of 649. One online source even suggests that there has been a median price rise in the city!

Of course the $8,000 first time homebuyer tax credit is something which is bolstering figures as buyers scramble to get that perfect property before the deadline on November 30th. If you need assistance with searching for a property before the deadline please contact us ASAP!
