Valparaiso, Indiana - commonly called Valpo, is the southeasternmost suburb of the Chicago metropolitan area and is located in Northwestern Indiana.
The population was 27,428 at the 2000 census, making it the 2nd largest city in Porter County. The city offers that great small town feel, while having all the conveniences of being in a large metro area. (Including access to downtown Chicago via an Express bus service called ChicaGO DASH!) The city of Valparaiso offers a thriving art and culture scene and is home to several colleges – including one called Valparaiso University, which is located in a 310 acre campus downtown.
Speaking of education, the city is awash with a variety of schools – including a host of Private institutions. The city council also is extremely active in promoting the city and helping maintain its image. Lets not forget promoting the annual popcorn festival! Partly made famous by the late Orville Redenbacher’s association with the city.
