Now the prospect of a new toll road may not excite many. However! This is a great indicator of a sound economy and increasing demand on local resources.

With Northwest Indiana still remaining stable in an uncertain world the news of a toll road linking Interstate 65 and Interstate 55 south of Chicago is very exciting!

State legislators from northwestern Indiana want permission for a private company to build and operate a toll road that could link both of these interstates. Republican Rep. Ed Soliday of Valparaiso says the bill would give the necessary legislative approval for the highway, even though a specific route hasn’t been picked and no companies have sought to build it.

A study estimated last year it would cost more than $1 billion to build an eight-lane, 25-mile-long “Illiana Expressway” from I-65 near Crown Point to I-57. But the bill would extend permission to a road going about 20 miles farther to I-55.

Supporters say the highway would provide a needed alternative to congested I-80/94.

What this means is ribbon growth along the proposed toll roads corridor – no matter what route it will take. There will be gas stations, which in turn leads to convenience stores, larger strip malls, subdivisions and so on. So from what appears to be a humble piece of tarmac you can extrapolate an exciting development for Northwest Indiana!
